What is Synthetic Biology?

Whereas Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary field that harnesses biological systems, organisms, or their components to develop products and technologies aimed at improving human life and the environment; Synthetic Biology is a specialized branch within biotechnology that merges principles from biology, engineering, computer science, and design to construct novel biological systems with enhanced functionalities. These fields represent the forefront of scientific innovation, where biology meets technology to address some of the most pressing challenges in medicine, agriculture, energy, and beyond.

Our vision and mission

Our society's vision is to create a thriving community for biotechnology and synthetic biology enthusiasts, where members can nurture their interests and prepare for a future in these cutting-edge fields.

Our mission is to equip our members with the knowledge, skills, and networks needed to excel in this illuminating field. We aim to inspire innovation, foster collaboration, and build a bridge between academia, entrepreneurship, and industry by providing inclusive platform to learn from top professionals in bio-field.

We welcome not only members from bioscience backgrounds but also those from diverse fields such as business, law, ethics, engineering, design, and more. If you have an interest in exploring the innovative field of biotechnology, our society provides the perfect platform to expand your horizons and contribute to interdisciplinary discussions.

What do we do?

Throughout the year, our members benefit from a range of biweekly events designed to shed light on internships, placements, and graduate prospects. These include Keynote Events, Panel Discussions, and Workshops featuring top researchers, biotech startups, and industry leaders, providing valuable insights into the latest advancements and trends in the field. Previously, these included guest speakers from Infinitopes, bit.bio, Ginkgo Bioworks, Colorifix, Gilead Pharma, and many more. Additionally, our Networking and Social events offer a relaxed way to build community bonds and expand support networks.
