KCLSU is looking for Venues Staff to work in the Guys Bar which provides a buzzing social hub for all our students. To work as an effective member of the Venues Team, you will need to promote the image of KCLSU as a friendly and efficient service to fellow students and guests, maintaining a clean and safe environment for all staff and customers, assist with the safeguarding of stock and cash, ensure that the conditions of our trading licence are met, and that access to KCLSU facilities is controlled.

To work as an effective member of the Venues Team, you’ll need to:

  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and health and safety compliance
  • Maintain strict stock and financial control and practice.
  • Ensure high standards and efficiency of work
  • To be a champion for KCLSU and its vision and values

Jobs Description

  • Serving food and beverages 
  • Using a till to take orders 
  • Engaging with customers and providing product recommendations
  • Keeping the bar area tidy and cleaned 
  • Monitoring and replenishing stock levels as needed
  • Clearing tables, wiping surfaces and operating the dishwasher to ensure ample glassware is available
  • Prepping garnishes
  • Handling card payments
  • Following health and safety guidelines 
  • Offering great customer service 
  • Following opening/closing and daily/weekly cleaning checklists
  • Cocktail making skills
  • Knowledge in beverages 
  • Bar experience (desirable) 
  • Working flexible and unsociable hours 
  • Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to alcohol service laws and safety standards.
  • Training in Health and Safety 
  • Managing TAB services for customer entertainment.
  • Completing administrative tasks like timesheets, safety incident reports, ID Check and inventory logs
  • Training in Food Safety Level 
  • Tapping and maintaining beer kegs while ensuring beer lines are clean.
  • Being able to work 2x Wednesday Nights per month until 3am.

Candidate Specification

  • Currently studying at King’s College London
  • Customer service skills, including being knowledgeable about products to assist customers best
  • Ability to recognise when to serve an intoxicated customer
  • Enjoy working with others and be able to cooperate as part of a team
  • Active listening skills and a good memory for remembering different orders from different customers
  • Calm demeanour to deal with demanding customers
  • Ability to multitask and remain organised during a busy period
  • The ability to work well in a noisy, high-pressure environment
  • Ability to carry out basic order processing and payment tasks on a till 
  • Attention to detail
