A Guide to the King’s Language Centre (KCL)

If you are looking to start learning or new language, or simply want to polish up on what you once knew, the KCL is the most convenient way to start this journey.

The Language Centre at King’s offers a wide variety of language-learning opportunities, including short courses, personalised tutoring, and specialised corporate training. Classes are conveniently available at Strand and Waterloo campuses, as well as online.

Whether you’re a student at King’s or someone from the broader community with an interest in languages, the KCL has options to meet all kinds of needs and goals.

King’s Language Centre provides several course types for learners:

  • Modules for all students: Credit-bearing modules that are free and integrated into your degree program.
  • Courses for postgraduate students: Non-assessed and non-credit-bearing courses that are added to your academic transcript.
  • Short courses for all students: Evening and weekend classes are offered at discounted rates for King’s students.

Additionally, evening and Saturday classes are open to non-students as well. Discounts are available for King’s staff and members of partner institutions.

If you’re not a student at King’s but interested in the Language Centre, you can still partake in courses to help you in your language journey:

  • Assessed modules: Those not enrolled at King’s but wishing to take an assessed module can reach out to the Language Centre team.
  • Tailored courses: Customised language courses designed to meet specific learning objectives.
  • Doctoral candidate courses (via CHASE, LAHP, SWW): Language learning opportunities within a supportive doctoral community.
