Celebrate Black Women Artists in London for Women History Month

Before you crack on, we'd like to remind you to check out 5 Free Events in London on the theme of Women's History Month, which you should check out here!

Women's History Month is an important celebration for us at KCLSU, and it becomes even more interesting when it coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. To effectively Accelerate Action during this fundamental month, it’s important to think about what communities are bringing this message forward and, even more importantly, how to actively include as many voices as possible in our vision of an equitable rights future.

Black women have historically been activists for all women’s rights, championing women’s inclusion in the workplace and in creative spaces. London wouldn’t be the same without its incredible network of Black women artists constantly redefining cultural spaces to make room for them.

This is why, today, we want to enhance and highlight the work of Black and non-white women in the London art scene. Make sure to check out these suggestions and add them to your to-do lists to discover the city!

Re-Learn Abstract Art with Christina Kimeze

Step into Christina Kimeze’s dreamlike world at the South London Gallery for her first solo exhibition in the UK. Between Wood and Wheel features a stunning new collection of paintings and works on paper, inspired by the resurgence of roller skating in Black communities.

With a focus on freedom, flight, and escape, Kimeze creates ethereal landscapes where her figures navigate “in-between” spaces, reflecting on the emotions and “otherness.” Click here to learn more about this wonderful exhibition and the visual journey you can expect to undertake.
