Whether you observe Easter as a religious occasion, see it as a cultural celebration, or simply enjoy the long weekend with chocolate eggs, this is a great moment to take part in the mix of traditions and events happening across campus and in London.
For Christians, Easter is the most significant celebration of the year. It marks the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion, symbolising hope and victory over hardship.
Easter is preceded by Lent, a 40-day period of fasting, prayer, and self-discipline. Traditionally, it’s a time to reflect, give up indulgences, or take up positive habits. Whether you gave up social media, cut down on caffeine, or spent more time volunteering, making it to the end of Lent is something worth acknowledging.
Holy Week, the final stretch before Easter Sunday, includes key days like Maundy Thursday (marking the Last Supper), Good Friday (commemorating the crucifixion), and Easter Sunday (celebrating the resurrection).
Easter at King’s: Get Involved
King’s is home to a diverse student body, and our campus societies are a great way to celebrate and connect this Easter.
Christian Union (CU) is holding a range of events throughout Holy Week and Easter weekend, including reflective services, social events, and group dinners.
Catholic Society (CathSoc) will be gathering for Easter Mass and fellowship, and they’re always open to new faces.
Chaplains at King’s are also running special services and quiet reflection sessions, including ecumenical Good Friday meditations and Easter Sunday services.
What to Do This Easter in London

If you’re staying in the city for the break, London has plenty to offer. Here are some ways to mark the end of Lent and celebrate Easter:
1. Visit a Local Church or Cathedral
Attend an Easter service at Southwark Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, or even St Martin-in-the-Fields near Trafalgar Square.
2. Explore London’s Springtime Sights
Easter falls right when London begins to bloom. Head to Kew Gardens or Regent’s Park for a walk among cherry blossoms, daffodils, and tulips. It’s a perfect way to unwind after term and reflect.
4. Check Out Local Easter Events
From the Passion of Jesus in Trafalgar Square (a live reenactment on Good Friday) to egg hunts in Greenwich or the Southbank Centre’s spring market, there’s something for everyone.
5. Make It Personal
If Lent is a time of challenge or self-discipline, take some time to reflect on what you've learned. Journal, go for a solo walk, or simply treat yourself to something meaningful. Easter is about renewal, however that looks for you.
Happy Easter from all of us at KCLSU. See you after the break, refreshed and ready for what’s next. For more info on society events and services, visit the KCLSU events.
