Hear from your peers this graduation: Graduation Day

Graduation day is a monumental occasion that marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. Whilst it is exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time, you can take comfort in the fact that so many people ahead of you have felt the same way. We spoke to a number of King’s alumni to bring you valuable advice so that you can make the most of your graduation day and navigate the days that follow. Read below on tips for graduation day itself.

1. Plan Ahead and Arrive Early

Graduation ceremonies can be hectic, so plan to arrive early. Familiarise yourself with the schedule, venue layout, and parking arrangements. Arriving early ensures you have ample time to find your seat, meet up with friends, and calm any pre-ceremony jitters.

2. Dress Comfortably

Your graduation gown will cover most of your outfit, but it’s still important to dress appropriately. Choose comfortable shoes, as you’ll be standing and walking a lot. Take a fan if it is hot!

3. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well

It's easy to get caught up in the excitement and forget to eat or drink. Have a hearty breakfast and bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. Graduation ceremonies can be long, and you’ll need the energy to stay focused and enjoy the day.

 4. Secure Your Essentials

Bring a small bag with essentials like your phone, ID, and some cash. If you are bringing a cap, make sure it is securely fastened with pins to avoid any mishaps during the ceremony. Also, double-check that you have your gown and any other required items sorted before you leave home.

5. Coordinate with Family and Friends

Ensure your loved ones know the schedule and location of the ceremony. Plan a meeting spot for after the ceremony to take photos and celebrate together. It's also helpful to have a designated photographer among your guests to capture the moment.

6. Soak in the Moment

Graduation is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Take a moment to look around and appreciate your surroundings, the people, and the significance of the day. Listen to the speeches, enjoy the applause, and celebrate your achievements. Most importantly, don’t downplay your achievements! Many people do this, as you are surrounded by so many other graduates at the same time, but really take some time to think about your accomplishments and how far you have come. That’s what really matters.

7. Make Time to Enjoy Your Day

Spend time with your friends and family. Do something nice afterwards, whether it’s going out for a meal or just relaxing at home.

8. Capture the Moment

Get nice photos. Don’t rely solely on professional photos; make sure you are with someone who knows how to take pictures.

Graduation is a momentous event that deserves to be celebrated and cherished. Congratulations to the Class of 2024! Remember, this is just the beginning of an exciting new chapter. Embrace the journey ahead with confidence and pride.
