How To Fundraise At KCLSU

spotlightvolunteering

This Student Volunteering Week, you’re encouraged to think about what kind of change you would like to see in your community, and whether you can take part in it. Volunteering comes with some challenges, such as having the right financial aid. If there’s a charity you would like to support or generate more traction to your Student Group, we are here to help you get your finances sorted!

KCLSU is here to guide you every step of the way to make sure your volunteering role goes as smoothly as possible. We really value the contribution you’re making to your fellow students, whether you’re doing it through a bake sale, a donation drive, or even by putting up your event.

Fundraising at KCLSU is here to support you in following your passions, and it will be your key to making an impact, developing new skills, and connecting with the wider King’s community. So, here’s a quick five-step guide to remind you of all the things you need to acquire the right financial support from KCLSU:

1. A bit of reading to get started: it’s important that you familiarise yourself with the Fundraising guidance on the KCLSU website. Here, you’ll find all the information you need before you start planning your event, including our policies and specific procedures, as well as the relevant deadlines you’ll need to remember before submitting your forms.

2. Once you feel like you have a good grasp of our Fundraising guidance, please remember to complete a Risk Assessment and submit it in due time. You can find the Risk Assessment file through the Activities Dashboard on your KCLSU profile. It is important to be able to foresee the possible dangers associated with your activity: you want everyone to be safe while taking part in your initiative and having fun!

3. The next step is to complete a Fundraising Form. This is where you will tell us why you require funding from us. We will make sure to provide you with all the support and resources we can so that your fundraiser can be a success!

4. This only applies if you are raising money for a specific charity. Since this is not your own student group, you will need to prove to us that you have obtained permission from the relevant charity to raise money for them. This is why you should remember to obtain a Charity Authorisation letter from the organisation and share it with us!

5. If you have come so far, then you’re all set! Your event is all backed up with the necessary checks and funding, and you can go ahead and start making a difference!

Your input is always welcome at KCLSU, and we truly appreciate your hard work. If you have any questions about starting out as a volunteer, or if there is any information missing from our blogposts, please feel free to reach out to [email protected] to get all the extra guidance you need!
