Ramadan Mubarak! The holy month is approaching, and we want to wish you all a happy Ramadan.
If you haven’t heard of it before, Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. During this month, Muslims fast from dawn till sunset, engaging in prayer, reflection, and charity. Ramadan ends with the celebration of Eid al-Fitr, a joyous day that marks the breaking of the fast. One of the most significant moments during Ramadan is Iftar—the evening meal at sunset that marks the end of the daily fast. It is traditionally a time for families and communities to come together and celebrate.
Whether you are a practising Muslim or not, you can participate in the celebration of Ramadan. If you’re in London this month, there are many ways to join in the spirit of the season, both in KCLSU spaces and beyond. Here are 4 ways to celebrate Ramadan in the capital this year!
1. Ramadan at KCLSU
If you're looking to connect with fellow students and celebrate Ramadan within the King’s College London community, you’re in luck! Our student societies provide a wonderful opportunity to engage with the Ramadan experience.
Some of the societies you might want to get in touch with are the Islamic Society, the Ahlul Bayht Society, and the Ahmadiyya Muslim Student’s Association. All these student groups provide a welcoming space for Muslims and all students at King’s. Their events and initiatives make up an important part of our volunteering projects at KCLSU, especially during Ramadan.
If you wish to pray between classes, do make use of the multiple prayer spaces in our campuses. You can find a comprehensive guide to where to find them and how to access them here. You are also welcome to get in touch with the King’s Muslim Chaplains, Imam Abdul Mumin Choudhury and Romana Kazmi, for any questions you may have on how to celebrate Ramadan during your studies.
If you have any other questions about how King’s supports their students during Ramadan, please find this article with updated information for the year 2025.

2. Join Open Iftar at Lord’s Cricket Ground
One of the best ways to experience Ramadan in London is by attending an Open Iftar event. Open Iftar is a successful initiative within the Ramadan Festival 2025 organized by the Ramadan Tent Project, an award-winning charity dedicated to fostering community cohesion during Ramadan.
These events have been going on for several years, re-purposing public and private spaces in London to enjoy communal dinners for Ramadan. This year’s theme for Open Iftar is Connection, focusing on how the shared experience of Ramadan can unite people from all cultures, backgrounds, and beliefs.
You can find tickets to the many Open Iftar events on their Instagram bio, but look out for their first open-air Iftar! On Saturday, March 8th, the event will take place at Lord’s Cricket Ground, where everyone will gather for an evening of food, spiritual reflection, and engaging conversations. Make sure to grab your free ticket through Eventbrite!
This event is a fantastic way to be part of something bigger, all while enjoying a warm meal and get to the root of what Ramadan is really about – an experience of cohesion, bonding, and sharing. Keep checking out the Ramadan Tent Project to find out more!

3. Sponsor an Iftar Meal at East London Mosque
Iftars are surely fun to enjoy, but not everyone has easy access to a full table of delicious food and great company. That’s why, if you can, you might consider donating to make sure everyone has access to a celebratory meal.
The East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre are renowned for their commitment to providing thousands of Iftar meals to people every day during Ramadan. They serve over 1000 meals daily to those in need, ensuring that no one goes without food at sunset.
They offer a donation scheme, and you can also participate for just £3 per meal! By contributing, you’ll help feed those less fortunate locally and internationally through the mosque’s charity partners. It’s a beautiful way to give back and embrace the spirit of charity during Ramadan. To sponsor a meal, head to this link.

4. Join the Inclusive Mosque Initiative for Feminist Iftar
For a more inclusive and diverse Ramadan experience, consider attending the Inclusive Mosque's Feminist Iftar. These will be held on a recurring basis all throughout Ramadan, and their first one will be on Saturday, March 8th at St Andrew’s Church in Southward. It’s open to all, regardless of gender or background, and is aimed at creating an inclusive space for people to come together and celebrate.
You can join both in-person and online, so you can feel part of an inclusive space for Ramadan, no matter where you are! Here, many of the imams at the Inclusive Mosque are women, genderqueer, or nonbinary, and they are keen to represent diversity within Muslim groups during Ramadan.
You are welcome to join whether you are Muslim or not, stay for the whole evening or just for a while – there is no pressure to participate in any specific way, as long as you are respectful of this unique space. You can find all the details on their page!

These are just a few of the wonderful ways to celebrate Ramadan in London. Whether you’re part of the Muslim community or simply looking to learn more, there’s something for everyone this Ramadan. So mark your calendar, get involved, and let’s celebrate together!
