As you may be aware, The Universities and Colleges Union have balloted to strike owing to a dispute with Universities UK on pensions. The strikes are scheduled for the 24, 25, 26 February and 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 19 and 20 March.
We understand that you may feel distressed during this time and we are working closely with the university to ensure that strikes cause the least possible disruption. The officers have taken into account the Academics’ right to strike and the university’s position on this matter and subsequently opted to take a neutral stance. We will continue to have discussions with the University around additional support to mitigate lost learning and how the money from salary savings may be used.
The officer team met this week with a group of academic reps to discuss how the strikes will affect students, mitigations and to listen to concerns from different courses and faculties. We are committed to supporting students and minimising the impact on their studies. We will be communicating with the University to try to address concerns the reps put forward and will feedback in due course.
