KCLSU President, Momin Saqib, announced today the appointment of Denis Shukur as the new Chief Executive for KCLSU.
KCLSU President, Momin Saqib, announced today the appointment of Denis Shukur as the new Chief Executive for KCLSU. Denis was appointed by a comprehensive selection process involving Momin, our trustee board, the Director of Students and Education at KCL, Tessa Harrison and the wider KCLSU team.
Denis has been involved in the Students’ Union sector for over 10 years and has worked in a range of different types of membership organisations and universities (post-92, Russell Group, arts-focused). During those years, Denis gained particular expertise in strategy formulation and implementation, change management, stakeholder/membership engagement and charity governance and operations. Via extensive engagement of stakeholders and empowering elected officers, Denis has overseen the creation of strategies at Goldsmiths SU and University of East London Students’ Union (UELSU), which has resulted in increased student participation in activities and increased awareness of the Students’ Union.
Prior to joining the Students’ Union sector, Denis worked in market research and has used his learning to make Students’ Union a centre for student intelligence and empower their leadership with readily available information to pursue the interests of students.
Denis is a strong advocate for diversity, he is a proud and active member of NUS’s race matters committee and an advocate for BAME attainment as well as assisting the National Deaf Children Societies on issues related to deaf children. He has been involved in many community organisations, including Tolerance in Diversity and Citizens UK, where he worked on fostering better community relations as well as on life-changing campaigns.
Commenting on his appointment Denis said, “I am extremely excited by this appointment and am looking forward to the prospect of helping the elected officers, staff members, students and our stakeholders to form a reflective and challenging strategy.”
Welcoming Denis to KCLSU, Momin said, “I am proud to say that over the last few years KCLSU has been on a journey of growth – a journey which has seen a significant growth in regards to our income, space, commercial venues, our diversity and our communication and engagement with our students. We are now in the last year of our current five year plan (which we lovingly call our Big Plan) and I look forward to working with Denis in developing our next strategic plan. He is an inspirational leader who will work with our elected student officers, KCLSU members and staff team to ensure every student at King’s has the best possible experience at University.”
