What do Student Officers do?

In the upcoming Spring Elections, the six Student Officer positions will be up for election. The Student Officers sit on the board of KCLSU and lead the whole organisation. The roles are full-time positions and are paid. Each Student Officer has a different area of responsibility.

President

The President acts as Chair of the KCLSU Trustee Board – this means they are responsible for leading the board and the whole organisation. In collaboration with the rest of the board, the President sets the objectives for the KCLSU Chief Executive and monitors their performance. The President attends the NUS Conference as KCLSU’s lead delegate and sits as a member of the KCL Council, which is the College’s supreme governing body. They also act as one of the key contacts between KCLSU and the KCL senior management team.

Vice-Presidents (Education)

There are two VPs (Education): one representing Arts & Sciences and one representing Health. They each take lead responsibility for the educational experience of students in their respective facilities. As well as sitting on the KCL board of trustees, they also sit on the relevant Academic boards and sub-committees to represent students from their faculties. They are the principal contacts for the Senior Vice Presidents for Educations at KCL, the academic associations and the academic representatives.

Vice-President (Postgraduate)

The VP (Postgraduate) is the lead officer for all matters relating to postgraduates. This includes both the postgraduate education experience and the development of postgraduate student societies and activities. They are also responsible for developing postgraduate student wellbeing and representation of underrepresented postgraduate communities. They act as the lead contact with the KCL Centre of Doctoral Studies and the KCL VP (Research).

Vice-President (Activities and Development)

The VP (Activities and Development) is the lead officer for the overall development of student activities, societies and clubs. They act as the key contact for KCL Estates, King’s Sport, KCL Service (volunteering) and KCL London.

Vice-President (Welfare and Community)

The VP (Welfare and Community) is the lead officer for the development of student wellbeing for the whole student body and for the representation of underrepresented student communities. To achieve this, they work closely with the KCL Diversity and Inclusion, Widening Participation, Counselling and Support Services teams. They are also the lead officer that works with the Liberation Networks.
