One of the staples of uni life is student groups, and the communities they create. These student groups are where you will make new friends, discover passions, and expand your areas of interest. Not sure if you’ll find the right student group for you? Don’t worry, we have over 300 of them here at King's, and some are bound to be of interest!
National and Cultural Student Groups
One of the main challenges that freshers repeatedly deal with when starting university is the change in environment. This change of scenery can lead to disorientation and anxiety, and this is where national societies come in. Whether you are from India, the US, China, or any other part of the world, you can be almost sure that you will find people with the same background here at King’s.
Of course, these societies need not only be national, and there are many cultural, religious, and even political student groups as well. Surrounding yourself with people who are culturally similar can help ease the transition to university, and if your native language is not English it’s often refreshing to speak in your home language!
Sports
Sports student groups are another essential part of King’s. Whether you are a high-level fencer or want to try out volleyball for the first time, joining a sports group is never a bad idea. There are more than 70 different sports clubs here at King’s, so don’t hesitate to try something new!
Most of our sports clubs compete in regional and national competitions, so if you think you have the level to join some of our top teams, visit their stand at the Welcome Fair and go to one of their tryouts!
Professional Student Groups
One of the benefits of studying at King’s is that you can take advantage of the amazing community and network surrounding it. One of the best ways to do so is through a professional student group. Be it the Medical Students' Association, BAME student groups, or the King’s Business Club, there are countless opportunities to learn more about your future line of work. These societies often organise networking events, invite speakers, hold conferences, and offer exciting prospects to their members.
Unexpected Societies
While the groups described so far are fairly classic, there are also many niche and surprising societies. Knit’s College London offers knitting classes to alleviate stress, for instance, and the popular Harry Potter society holds countless events centered around the saga.
So whether you want to join a sports club, find people with the same background, or join the Hot Chocolate society, there is bound to be a student group for you! Come to the Welcome Fair in September to discover all of the exciting groups you can join.
