Welcome to King's College London's Opera Society!

King's Opera funds and stages at least two operas annually, including a Fresher’s Opera, scenes, and other major productions. Even if you are not a singer yourself, King's Opera Society is a great way to just explore your love for opera.

King's Opera also provides opportunities to gain experience in opera production, stage and musical direction, artistic design, and backstage work.

Last year, we staged a powerful production of Dido and Aeneas by Purcell at the KCL Chapal in term 1, and the hilarious Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot, in term 2. Then in term 3 we did a gorgeous production of Bach's Coffee Cantata. This year, our 1st term opera will be the beautiful baroque opera, Venus and Adonis, by John Blow. Then, in 2nd term we will be doing the challenging and famous opera, The Magic Flute, by Mozart!

Aside from productions, our programme will also be full of other performance opportunities, including frequent recitals, opera scenes, and masterclasses from industry professionals. There will also be free trips for members to opera performances and dress rehearsals in London plus monthly socials!

King's Opera holds frequent recitals which allow keen singers the opportunity to perform arias, opera scenes, and art song in a concert setting. Along with these extra chances to perform come the opportunities to gain experience in other aspects of opera as directors, musical directors, producers, and set and costume designers.  Not only this, but our productions always require roles such as stage manager, flyman, lighting designer, front of house staff and much more! Even if you're not a singer, but an orchestral musician, become a member and get the opportunity to play in the pit for our productions!

A membership to King's Opera will allow exclusive performing opportunities, access to showcases and FREE entry to many other society events.

Upcoming Events:

Venus and Adonis: 26th, 28th and 29th November

Powerful production featuring talented soloists and a gorgeous chorus with a powerful accompaniment by baroque orchestra. Based on the Shakespeare Venus and Adonis, this tells the story of a flawed love story.
